Century Tel Splicing work:

Mike Mehringer and Shawn Bland have been following up on the calls and leads that we have received from the workers in the field. A lot of the workers we are talking to our sub-contractors of Sellenriek Construction. We did go to Monroe City and spoke with some of the workers in that area and they are still most of their maintenance splicing. We need an all out push to keep this work and get our work back or at least get it performed by Union members. Keep the calls coming! Without you we don’t know where to go look!

Verizon/MCI:

With the accqustion of MCI by Verizon Communications we have a number of non-union workers in our area that are performing work that has been done by our Select Services group in the past. We are reviewing agreements and trying to identify these groups. If you see a Verizon Van/Truck and don’t recognize the worker as a member of our local, please ask them what group they are with etc. Make sure we get that call back into the local.

Verizon Wireless:

We have tried to get salts hired in at Verizon Wireless; unfortunately to date we have not been successful. Opal Oliver and I have met with some former workers from there that are now employed by Verizon Wireline and their past co-workers are scared to even talk to a organizer for fear of retaliation by the company.
